What is XEO?
Some of the most popular cosmetic procedures offered by Skin & Sculpt Med Spa use the energy of lasers to rejuvenate the skin and restore natural beauty. There are many types of lasers that treat different conditions based on their source of energy and wavelength.
The XEO laser platform by Cutera® offers a multitude of treatment device options, including Laser Genesis and LimeLight, to treat a wide variety of conditions. This powerful platform features a 1064nm wavelength that allows for a customizable treatment session designed around individual patient needs of all skin types and tones. The licensed and trained providers at Skin and Sculpt Medical Spa in Knoxville TN primarily use this device to effectively treat uneven skin texture, tone, fine lines, enlarged pores, brown spots, excessive redness, acne, and unwanted hair.
What is Laser Genesis?
Laser Genesis is a near-infrared (NIR) Nd:YAG laser with a wavelength of 1064-nm. Studies have proven that NIR irradiation is efficient for skin rejuvenation due to its ability to provide long-lasting stimulation of elastin. It will also increase the amount of collagen, resulting in clinically improved skin tone and texture.
As the name implies, elastin is a highly elastic protein found within the connective tissue layer underneath the skin surface. This protein is what helps the skin to resume its shape after stretching or contracting. Along with elastin, you’ll find collagen in the connective tissue as well. Collagen is a structural protein that gives skin its strength and firmness. Over time, collagen and elastin are degraded, which represents one of the main mechanisms contributing to signs of aging. Therefore, Laser Genesis can minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.
Additionally, the thermal energy of Laser Genesis targets the tiny vessels and capillaries that are the cause of persistent skin redness, such as with conditions like rosacea. By breaking down these vessels, blood that is trapped under the surface of the skin dissipates, which reduces overall redness.
Benefits of Laser Genesis:
In addition to the clinically proven results with Laser Genesis, there are many other benefits that patients appreciate with this treatment. Let’s start with the convenience. Laser Genesis is a non-invasive treatment that typically only takes about 30 to 45 minutes. There is no need for anesthesia because it is a painless procedure that only causes a gentle warming sensation. Also, there is no downtime required with this laser. Thus, the Laser Genesis treatment is ideal for busy patients who want to see results but do not have the time to take off for recovery. Lastly, Laser Genesis is designed for safe and effective treatment on all skin types and ethnicities, and can be safely used on all body parts (excluding the eye and surrounding area). This is in contrast to other lasers that come with the risk of discoloration if used on the wrong skin type.
It’s typically recommended to receive between 3 to 6 Laser Genesis treatments, spaced about 4 weeks apart. It’s important to keep in mind that even though the course of treatment can be several months, you don’t have to deal with the disadvantages of downtime and recovery after each treatment. Skin & Sculpt Med Spa will be able to design a custom treatment plan for you based on your unique needs.
What is LimeLight?
Cutera® LimeLight is an intense pulse light treatment, also known as IPL photo facial, or photo-rejuvenation. Limelight is a unique technology we use at Skin and Sculpt Medical Spa to treat benign pigmented and vascular lesions to improve the healthy appearance of the skin. This procedure offers the advantage of improving skin tone and surface imperfections associated with aging, photodamage, and rosacea. Due to its customizable platform, your provider can tailor your treatment specifically for brown spots, redness, or both in Fitzpatrick types I-IV. LimeLight is ideal for any part of your body with skin redness, telangiectasias (tiny veins) or brown spots, and results can be seen in as little as one to three treatments.
What is ProWave LX?
The ProWave™ laser hair removal treats Fitzpatrick types I-IV and due to the large spot size and fast repetition rate, large areas like legs and backs can be quickly and effectively treated in at least 6 to 8 treatments. The ProWave™ contains two groundbreaking innovations. First due to the custom design, the ProWave™ emits mostly infrared light above 770 nm - wavelengths recognized as the most versatile for hair removal. The second innovation is the output spectrum that can be customized to optimize treatment for each patient. Three distinct programs tailor the wavelength and pulse width to optimize performance and efficacy for each patient.
The ProWave LX overcomes the limits of other IPL technology for hair removal. Lighter and finer hair removal is more easily possible with better targeting capabilities. The ProWave LX provides a fast, comfortable hair removal treatment that can be used on small and large areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
When the pulse of light is delivered, patients will experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Gel is used to cool the skin before treatments and the applicator simultaneously cools the skin. Anesthesia or pain medicine is typically not required.
Treatment time depends on the area of the body being treated. However, most treatments should take less than one hour.
One to three treatments are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatments may be recommended, especially for excessively sun damaged skin.
Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red. The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly a day or longer. Make-up can be applied to cover the redness.
Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade. Diffused redness or telangiectasias will decrease and your mottled complexion will improve.
New brown spots, telangiectasias and diffused redness may appear with new sun damage; however they too can be treated. Remember to always apply broad-spectrum sunscreen when outdoors to minimize sun damage. Rosacea is chronic and cannot be “cured” with any laser or light source, however its appearance can be improved.
