Botox has gained widespread popularity over the years and is used cosmetically to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. A small amount of this neuromodulator is injected into targeted muscles to relax and smooth skin in treatment areas. The effect of Botox generally takes 3 to 10 days for onset of action and can last for 3 to 4 months. Botox injections have been FDA approved for 3 treatment areas: forehead, the 11’s, and crow’s feet. It can be administered in many other areas when used off-label with positive results.
What are Botox and Neuromodulators?
Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin that is injected into muscles to block nerve signals that cause muscle contractions. It is a safe and minimally invasive procedure that proves to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Other Neuromodulators used in our practice include: Xeomin, Dysport, and Daxxify. They all have their nuances that make them different in chemical form but perform similarly to Botox.
