The new superstars for the year in nutrition are Jackfruit, baobab, graviola (has some safety indications), and dragonfruit
Jackfruit is high in B vitamins, potassium, and calcium. It can be sweet or savory depending on ripeness. It was delicious in the Halo Halo dessert that my husband shared with me on our recent adventure. Baobab contains micronutrients. There are six different species and I have never had one. Hmm, I may have to track this down and put it on my to try list. Dragonfruit is a species of cactus fruit. It contains Vitamin C, B, and carotene. Oh, and it is pretty to look at when cut. Graviola is a new comer for me. Apparently it has been shown to attenuate or treat some cancers, however, in higher doses may have neurotoxic effects and may be linked to Parkinson’s Disease.
